Candolim beach

This 30 km stretch of sandy haven is located in the northern part of Goa state in India. Candolim, a serene and peaceful beach is just 15 km from Panjim, the capital city of Goa. Candolim starts from Aguada and sprawls till Chapora beach along the Arabian sea. Calangute covers Candolim on its south.

This was the place where Abbe Faria, the Father of Hypnotism and Goan freedom fighter was born.  Fishing and Toddy Tapping are the major occupations in this coastal village.

Aguada Fort:
The Aguada fort was built atop the Sinquerim cliff in 16th century by the Portuguese. Travelers can have an awesome view of the sea, port and rivers from this fort. Visitors can come across the ruins of the fort, clock, a lighthouse and a bell. This four storey lighthouse was constructed in 1864 and it is the oldest one in Asia. The sea near the fort was once an anchoring place for ships. These ships replenish the water stores with the water provided by the freshwater spring within this fort.

Being located on the Mandovi river in Bardez district, the fort was the major defence of the Portuguese from Dutch and Marathas. This place also served as a prison during Salazar Rule. Now this fort has been converted into a beach resort.

Candolim Church:
This church was built in 1560 by Fr. Pedrode Belem. It is dedicated to the Lady of the Hope. The beauty of this white parochial church is astonishingly augmented by emerald green paddy fields which sprawl across the Nehru river. This church adds value to the rustic beauty of Goa.

Dolphins and Fishing:
Boat operators in Candolim beach organize short trips in which visitors can spot the crocodiles and dolphins. River cruises are available for tourists.

St. Lawrence Chapel:
This chapel is located on the Candolim – Calangute route. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence, a patron saint of the sailors in Goa.

Other activities:
Other than sightseeing in Candolim, tourists can also involve in some adventurous activities like Scuba Diving, Parasailing, Wind Surfing, Swimming, Skiing etc. Candolim is also a most suitable place for yoga and meditation.
  
The nearest airport and railhead are at Panjim which is just 15 km from Candolim beach. This beach is well connected by roadways.
