Friendship Day

In 1935, the US Congress, through a proclamation, declared the first Sunday of August a holiday, in honour of friends and friendship. The day soon gained popularity in many countries around the world and today, it is World Friendship Day.

On this day, people spend time with their friends and exchange gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands. Friendship bands are very popular in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and parts of South America. Nowadays, it is also being celebrated online on the various social networking sites.
