Kailash Fair

The Kailash Fair, a local fair held in Kailash, some seven miles from Agra, in honour of Lord Shiva, is one of the biggest fairs in the country. Legend has it that Lord Shiva appeared in this place in the form of a stone lingam – the sacred phallic symbol of the god.

The festival, celebrated with great fervor by people of all ages, is a spectacular event with many religious activities and other celebrations. Not only the temples but also the streets are decorated with colorful papers. Numerous stalls selling toys, food, jewellery and so on also add to the festive mood.
