The Gahma Purnami Festival, dedicated to Baladeva, is celebrated in the rural areas of Orissa, on the full moon day in the month of Shravan (August).

This festival celebrates the birthday or jayanti of Lord Balarama also known as Bhalabadra. The main ritual of Gamha Purnima festival is Gamha Diyan. On this day, cattle, especially plough cattle, are decorated, given special offerings and worshipped.

Other places of the country celebrate the full moon day as Raksha Bandhan – the day of tying of the rakhis.
