Gandhi moves to Kheda
After Champaran, Gandhi had to involve himself in the agrarian trouble in the Kheda district of Gujarat. The peasants there were in starvation. But they were forced to pay the tax. Gandhi asked them to do satyagraha and the months-long movement resulted in the government suspending the assessment for the poor peasants.
In 1915 the British India Government had conferred the award of ‘Kaisar-i Hind’ on Gandhi for the great services Gandhi had rendered to the British Empire. Almost at the same time Poet Rabindranath Tagore was conferred the honorary title of “Sir’.
