Among the eight hundred Indian languages the following have been recognized as the official languages of India.

Assamia:    Assam
Bengali :     West Bengal, Tripura
Bodo :         Assam
Dogri :        Jammu-Kashmir
Kannada :      Karnataka
Kashmiri :      Jammu-Kashmir
Konkani :    Goa
Maithili :    Bihar
Malayalam :    Kerala, Puthuchery, Lakshadweep
Manipuri :    Manipur
Marathi :    Maharashtra, Goa
Nepali :    Sikkim
Oriya :        Orissa
Punjabi:    Punjab, Chandigad, 2nd official language in Delhi and Haryana
Sanskrit:     the language of Hindu, Jaina, Buddhist religions
Santhal :      the language of Chota Nagpur and the Santhal tribes of
                         Jhar Khand, Bihar, Orissa and Chathisghad
Sindhi :          the language of the Sindhi people
Tamil  :           Tami Nadu Puthchery
Telugu :          Andhra Pradesh , Puthuchery
Urdu :            Jammu-Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh
